ROSYNC wins environmental award

Award for the world's first energy-saving small motor

At the evening award ceremony on 16 February 2010, both Reinhard Loske (Greens), Bremen's Senator for the Environment, Construction, Transport and Europe, and Oliver Liersch (FDP), State Secretary in the Lower Saxony Ministry of Economic Affairs, praised the importance of this product developed by ROTEK for the Bremen-Oldenburg metropolitan region.

Sabine Johannsen, Managing Director of NBank - Investitions- und Förderbank Niedersachsen, and Holger Neumann, Managing Director of Bremer Aufbau-Bank GmbH, congratulated the Managing Directors of Rotek GmbH & Co. KG Wilfried, Klaus and Rolf Treusch on winning the 'award environment company: Northwest 2009'.

ROTEK launched the highly efficient ROSYNC small motor on the market in 2008. It has an innovative stator design combined with an optimised rotor and modern magnetic materials. This design is a proprietary development for which the company has applied for a patent. It is called GreenDrive Technology and makes the ROSYNC the world's first energy-saving small motor for AC applications. ROSYNC motors with GreenDrive Technology achieve efficiencies of up to over 90 per cent. Commercially available drives have efficiencies of 20 to 60 per cent. A single ROSYNC motor avoids up to 150 kg of CO2 in one year. This is 200 times its own weight.

Dr Cornelis Rasmussen, Managing Director of Bremer Energie-Konsens GmbH, presented the award in the energy category on 16 February 2010 at the Schauspielhaus Bremen.

Dr Cornelis Rasmussen, Managing Director of Bremer Energie-Konsens GmbH and donor in the Energy category, congratulated the double winner: "Drastic increase in efficiency at the same cost: this not only protects the environment and avoids climate-damaging CO2 emissions, but also occupies a market niche in an innovative way. The project we honoured is exemplary and worthy of emulation, showing how much energy can be saved with consistent product design."

The jury sees the GreenDrive technology as an innovative new development that can save a considerable amount of energy thanks to its wide range of applications. In addition, the size of the award-winning motor is smaller, which minimises the amount of material used in production. Due to the enormous savings potential and the large number of motors that can be used worldwide, the jury also honoured this project in the energy category.

This can be concretised using the example of conveyor belts. The use of a single three-phase motor with an output of 50 watts ensures that 150 kg less CO2 is generated per year than by a conventional motor with the same output. If just 100 small motors in operation were replaced with motors from the ROSYNC series, this would reduce electricity costs by €4-6000 per year, depending on the electricity price. The motors are currently used in pellet heating systems, filter systems and conveyor belts.

We are focussing on the development of particularly efficient small motors because there is still considerable potential for energy savings in this area. Switching to energy-efficient technologies is necessary to reduce CO2 emissions, cut costs and contribute to climate protection. The seven finalists are presented here. Youtube
