Award for ROTEK
Unvironmentally friendly and sustainable management has always been an issue at Rotek. We pay strict attention to low energy consumption, economical use of materials and a long service life for our drives. In this way, we minimise the environmental impact throughout the entire life cycle.
We have redesigned our company premises to be animal and insect-friendly. Because we want to do something to counteract the dwindling biodiversity and increasing land sealing. Native plants serve as a habitat and food source for bees, butterflies, birds and other animals.
Following advice from BUND, the first step was to have a wildflower meadow planted behind the building. Five apple trees, some shrubs and ground cover plants were planted there. In front of our company building there are now perennials such as catmint, evening primrose and others that provide food for insects.
In summer 2020, BUND Bremen, together with the "Umwelt Unternehmen" office, presented us with the "Places of Biodiversity" award
Christine Cramm, Chairwoman of the BUND Bremen regional organisation, was impressed by the natural outdoor design on the occasion of the award: "We congratulate ROTEK on its exemplary ecological commitment and are pleased to honour it as a 'Place of Biodiversity'! Especially in industrial estates like this one, there is great potential for improving ecological diversity. A lot can be achieved for an intact natural environment by unsealing areas and planting insect-friendly vegetation. Urban greenery in particular is necessary and of central importance when it comes to sustainable urban development and the preservation of biodiversity.
For Managing Director Rolf Treusch, the commitment to more biodiversity in the commercial environment is a matter of course.
After all, protecting the environment and nature is an integral part of the company's philosophy: "We already have beehives on the roof of our hall, so it is only logical to set up habitats and retreats for birds, insects and small animals on the entire company premises. In doing so, we are also fulfilling our social responsibility towards people and the environment."
Member of the "Partnership of Environmental Companies"
ROTEK has been a member of this network since May 2008 ('Partnership Environment Company'). It was founded in Bremen in 2003 with the aim of further expanding Bremen's pioneering role in sustainable environmental protection through an association of environmentally active companies. Good ideas and suggestions are generated through dialogue with others.
